Experimenting with different sizes and shapes of canvas this piece started out vertical. I didn’t really have anything in mind as to what I wanted to create specifically. I had lazily taped the canvas to the heavybag since this was just an “experimental” piece that I didn’t expect to do much with. While throwing kicks the canvas fell down off of the bag and landed sideways. It reminded me of flames! From that point I knew exactly what I wanted to do. I wrapped the canvas back around the bag horizontally so I could throw straight punches and hooks to paint the coals. From there I took it a step further painting fire with fire and used a blowtorch to burn the white space and singe the edges. This is a representation of the fire we each have burning deep within ourselves.
